inexpensive red/green dot sights?

I was thinking about going with a NcStar but I've heard bad things about that manufacturer.

I bought el-cheapo ones at the gunshows - you can hold the, turn them on, look through them, see if you think its made fairly well ( or not) and then decide. Mine was a no-name brand that went on a Ruger 10-22 and has worked wonders for my daughter. I love 'em (the sights, not my daughter. well, you know what i mean)

Give this a good look. Vortex also has the Strikefire which is cheaper (but bigger)...AND you cant beat the lifetime warranty....

What are firearm are you planning to use it on and how are you planning on using that firearm? What is your definition of inexpensive?

At some point you're just wasting your time and money buying the el-cheapo solution. Battery life issues, failure to maintain zero, and the like are common problems with the inexpensive red dot sights. A lot of them will only do well on 22lr or air rifle, and fail under actual recoil.

I recommend staying away from Chinese clones or high-end sights. I also recommend avoiding NCStar. I personally had bad experiences with both when I was trying to be cheap and did not want to pony up for Aimpoint or EoTechs. Believe me, I understand the reasoning behind not wanting to spend that kind of money. But you really do get what you pay for.

A lot of times it is much smarter to stick with irons and just save up for something high-end.

I got a $50 one for my GSG-5. I've only used it once outdoors, so I haven't calibrated it yet but it "seems" sturdy so far. I wonder if I just bought it for looks.

I have used a Leatherwood Hi-Lux M30 Red dot sight on my Saiga .223 for almost a year, and it held zero without any complications, it was also shock proof, water proof and had a limited lifetime warrenty.. came with lens cover and ribbed rubber guards to protect the lens' and optic from banging around. And the battery life was not too bad, about 200+ hours on those watch batteries. All for $75.00 shipped on Opticsplanet.com. I highly recommend it, and there's also a good review on them from Youtube, I believe sootch00 does the review.

From what I hear, the Bushnell (Someone above has already recommended) is also great for the money, and Primary arms micro red dots are good too.
