I guess what I am wanting to know is if these scopes live up to the hype, or if they fall into the "tacticool" category.

i'm sure it lives up to it's hype... or else precision and leo's won't be using it on their rigs. I'm sure couple on the precision, tactical long range shooters will chime in.

most guys on CAPRC have NF (NXS). I just picked a 3-15x50 up but it's sturdy. Knobs are heavy duty. Feels like a tank compared to my accupoint and leupold.

The second part of my question is that the reticles are rated as low, medium and high velocity. What is that all about? The ammo I typically shoot is 115 gr pushing 2575 fps and about 11.6” drop at 300 yards.

I don’t mind paying for quality, but at their price point, they had better be pretty bombproof. Thanks for the replies in advance!

Your cartridge falls into the "LowVelocity" category if you are going to order the scope with the "Velocity Reticle"

If your engagements are going to be 75-150 yards, then this reticle may not be for your application.
I used their on line ballistic calculator for your bullet(115 Sierra HPBT Match .318 B.C.)
If you do want to use the Velocity Reticle, your low velocity rating for your cartridge, according to the calculator data you would sight in your rifle dead on at 243 yards using the 200 yard (B) hash mark. This would put your cartridge in line for the rest of long range bullet drop drop hashes. It should work well.

Thank you all. This helped a lot. And after browsing the NightForce site with a computer with pdf, I am much more informed. I would have never guessed correctly that 5.56mm and 6.8spc would both fall into the low velocity column. My BDL on the other hand, made it to medium. Sounds like an awesome scope. My only real concern at this point is how the documentation states the hash marks are only good at max magnification. Hmmm, well I suppose, they will be like my other mil dot scopes, used close up. The one being sold on the forum has a different reticle altogether, but you can never go wrong with a LaRue mount. Okay... where's my money? Let's do this thing.

Oh, one last thing. I've been scouring the Internet for a good price and keep landing at Optics Planet. Does anyone have a better source for NightForce Scopes?

I use nightforce scopes on everything from .223 to .338 Lapua. They have been beaten and banged around in competition and always have treated me well with no problems. High dollar scopes like USO,Premier, S&B, etc all have their problems and while nightforce isnt perfect I have seen far less failures with them than the other high dollar scopes. The other scopes do have some very nice features compared to the NF. Nightforce controls the MAP pricing on all their scopes so every dealer is going to be pretty much the same price. Sometime dealers wil throw in extras to sweeten the deal. I have bought a lot of them used but Midway USA has good deals if you can pick one up on clearance. I just picked up a new 5.5-22x50 from Midway for about $350 off MAP. Keep a lookout on the clearance section. Also, Mike at CS Tactical is good to work with.

Nightforce is known to be the bombproof standard as far as scopes go. My F1 is probably the last scope I'll need for my primary bolt gun.

USOs will have more factory options, but they are build to order typically (there's a lengthy wait for one) and more expensive.

The Nightforce 2.5-10x32mm are outstanding scopes. I just setup one of my customers with the 2.5-10x32mm in a 6.8. We will see how he likes it.

Okay, so I picked up the Nightforce 2.5-10x32mm with low velocity reticle. I've had it about a month now. Put about 300 rounds down range and so far, I LOVE it! The optic is clear and precise.

I bought mine from LaRue. It came as a package deal with the Larue one piece mount. Freakin awesome! Thanks again to all that provide insight into these NF scopes. This will not be my last Night Force purchase.
