It depends on what you're mountng it on, what type of terrain that you are hunting and what animal you'll be hunting for.

I wouldn't put one on my 375H&H for Cape Buffalo in the tall grass in Zimbabwe, nor would I use it for my 22lr on running rabbits.

For general deer/pig hunting on a 243 - 300 mag in the deserts, rolling hills and ranch lands of central and southern California it would work fine though.

Loose the adj. obj. and you will be fine. A 3X9X40 or 3.5X10X40 would also work just fine. I would only use a Leupold on a hunting/serious rifle/pistol. I will use some others on fair weather fun guns but Leupold on hunting guns. The more gizmos on a scope/rifle the more game you will miss due to having to mess with them. That especially includes flip-up scope caps as well as adj.obj. and side focus garbage. Mount the scope as close to the barrel as possible,Meaning use as low of rings as you can and you are good to go.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
