Which type of scope is most accurate from 200 yards and up?

    Hi folks,

I'm specifically talking about for an AR15 carbine (franklin armory). I have a traditional 1.5-4x30mm scope coming in a day (sightmark tactical), which I plan to mount and hurry to the range for some fun.

I was debating going with the traditional scope like above, vs. getting a red-dot, something like an Eotech, etc., I obviously decided on a traditional because I like the idea of magnification.... was also skeptical of MOAs, and my eyes aren't the greatest to begin with...

How many of you guys went from one type, to the other, and never looked back?

My application is (I hope) only for range shooting and occasionally hunting (vs. in home defense).

I'm going to shoot from 50yds to possibly 200, which is the reason I decided to go with the traditional scope. I'm buying a small rifle for my son, so "if" I went the wrong route, I can put the 1.5 on his gun, and go "the other route."

Looking for all opinions. Appreciate if you can share the distance you're shooting, moa, and what type of scope you're using.

    Thanks all,

    Chib

I went from red dot to trad. and am shooting much more accurately. The red dot is much faster for short range work though.

If you are NOT going for precision shooting the 1.5-4x will do the job. If you are going for precision shooting then I would recommend a 10x on the minimum and at the top end no more that 25x.

Red Dot sight are great for speed.

On an AR, a Leupy 3.5-10x is plenty. I quote Jacob Bynum. A lot of animals (walking on 2-4 legs) have been killed with scopes in this range. No point in cranking up more power than necessary. When you buy, hit up Mike at CSTactical. He's the man!

              0-200....

I like my accupoint a lot. 3-9x with a triangular reticle.

It might be for sale.. or if you have any questions about the scope... let me know
