    Spotting Scope Help

Looking for a spotting scope for out to 100 yds, using a friends 20-60 x 60 Redhead now that works but kinda fuzzy and NO eye relief.

What do you guys use out to 100 yds, I need to be able to see 22 cal hits clear, hopefully without breaking the bank.

I'm not really up on the new brands like Barska and the like, are any of the cheaper ones any good ? have read some of the older russian scopes are great and low $ but never used any.

You really don't need a spotting scope for that, you should be able to spot .22 hits at 100 with a 10 power scope or better with no problem. I have a 10x SS on my 10/22 and have no problem seeing my hits at 100.

Don't scimp on optics though, when you have to get new glasses, you go to the optomitrist and have them fitted to you, ensuring the prescription is correct, you don't go down to the flea market and buy the cheapest pair you can find that is close to the prescription that you need.

I like that analogy. I'll have to use that.

For a decent spotting scope with a modest price tage I would suggest looking at Bushnell, Burris, or Konus.

I bought a Barska from Big 5.....took it back and picked up a Redhead like above.....it's still really hard to see even at just a 100 yards on full power. I am now looking inot something better myself.

I have a couple of the older Bushnell Spacemaster spotting scopes. They have the 60mm objective and either a 20X fixed or 15-45X variable.

What you are looking for is resolution. I've looked through the cheaper 15-45X variables, and you just can't see any detail. Magnification out to 100 yards shouldn't require much, but you need good glass.

I see Spacemasters all the time on Ebay for around $100. Don't confuse the older 60mm objective models with the newer 50mm compacts and the models that look like a snail. They're all called Spacemaster.

I agree with Brassburnz about the older Bushnells. My back-up is a Bushnell Sentry 15-45x50mm. For 100yds it's great. At 200yds .30 cal holes are visible, .223 are very difficult. I currently use a Konus Konuspot 20-60x80mm that I got on E-bay for well under $200 shipped.
