Both eyes open right? I thought I read somewhere that the "proper" way to aim red dots and holo sights is to have both eyes open. What's your method? Sorry if this is a goon question- I just got my cheapy red dot in the mail today, so hopefully I'll get it mounted and out to the range soon to do some plinking.

Yea both eyes open. I do it with everything. Work at it if it feels awkward. Allows for a better feel for your surroundings and safer shooting -

It does take some getting used to, it'll work with just one eye tho. A little game to play with your brain that may help is to cover the lens of the red dot, look with both eyes, and you'll see the dot on the target."Everything I ever learned about leadership, I learned from a Chief Petty Officer." - John McCain

Keeping both eyes open is cruicial for situational awareness, as well as target acquisition. You lose a lot of FOV and peripheral vision with one eye closed.Comment
