method for aiming a red dot

Both eyes open right? I thought I read somewhere that the "proper" way to aim red dots and holo sights is to have both eyes open. What's your method? Sorry if this is a goon question- I just got my cheapy red dot in the mail today, so hopefully I'll get it mounted and out to the range soon to do some plinking.

Yea both eyes open. I do it with everything. Work at it if it feels awkward. Allows for a better feel for your surroundings and safer shooting

Both eyes open, looking at the target.

It does take some getting used to, it'll work with just one eye tho. A little game to play with your brain that may help is to cover the lens of the red dot, look with both eyes, and you'll see the dot on the target.

Keeping both eyes open is cruicial for situational awareness, as well as target acquisition. You lose a lot of FOV and peripheral vision with one eye closed.

I keep both eyes open. Your brain is capable of doing an excellent job of superimposing the important parts it's seeing with one eye, over the image from the other eye. This is why you can use a red dot with the lens cap on the front end.

All non-magnified shooting should be with both eyes open; that includes iron sights. The point is to have a full field of view to survey not just the target area but also peripheral threats.
