Inexpensive red dot for the AR

A buddy of mine is looking for an inexpensive red dot for my AR. He's not kicking down any doors nor will he be in the sand box; its mostly for range use, so I dont think an Aimpoint or EOTech is needed.

I was looking at the Primary Arms Micro gen 2 and M3 clones, Bushnell TRS-25 and Holosight, Vortex SPARC and Strikefire, as options for him.

Primary Arms clones get good reviews and their customer service is great, I heard. Bushnell has an OK rep and the Holosight and TRS-25 look like good RDs for the price. Kind of mixed reviews with the Strikefire but seem to be OK overall. The SPARC looks interesting. It includes a bunch of mounts and a screw in magnifier. Havent heard much about it though.

What do you guys think? Which one should he get? Anybody with one of these that like to share their experience? Any other recommendations?

Bushnell TRS-25 is good. You'll need at least a 1" riser to get it to co-witness. Not compatible w/ any of the Aimpoint risers, though. I'm using a YHM 1/2"riser locked down on a American Defense 1/2" QR riser to get my sights to cowitness. When looking down the tube, you'll see on the lower right, the electronics. I don't notice it after using the RD after awhile but it's there in your field of view.
I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having SIX. It's called a tasting and it's classy.

I have an IJK (a.k.a. Eagle Eye Optics) on 6.8spc and have had zero issues. still in zero after 200+rounds down the tube, also good battery life.

Czech company. There are usually 2-3 vendors who carry them at gunshows. You might want to wait a bit and check one out for yourself at next gunshow.
