Hello,
I've been searching and searching for some time now and I think it wouldn't hurt to get an advise from experienced "wolves" around here.
Here is my situation.
I've ordered Remington 700 SPS Tactical rifle, the new model with 1 in 10" rate of twist , in .308 caliber.
I'd like to have some fun with this rifle between 100 and 600 yards. Whether it's a target shooting or some hunting later on (I know it's not a "hunting" type of rifle, but it would do fine). I know from the many reviews I've red that there are shooters using it even beyond 600 yards , but it's a stretch and I get that it's not designed for it.
So my scope would be something that would handle these situations and something I would be able to recognize and hit a paper target at around 500 yards, while have enough of lower limit for quick target acquisition ( perhaps 4.5x ?)
My budget is somewhere between $700 and $900 and I could stretch it to a thousand if something would stand out.
So far in this range I found few models I've been considering as good candidates:
1. Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x50
2. Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50
3. Leupold VX3L - 4.5-14x50 CDS
I like the Bushnell's range, never had one so I can't tell how good they are optically. But I'm open to others as well and would welcome some inputs.
Reticle is another thing and the whole science behind it. My head is spinning.
I'd prefer fine lines for long distance, so I don't know if Mill dot is alright. Boone and Crockett from Leupold looks appealing to me and DOA from Bushnell is also interesting.
I would appreciate some inputs. I know I'm too much all over the map and I should narrow my use of the rifle, but I'm trying to find something that would offer me the most out of it and have fun with different activities.
Thanks and have a great day.
