Which type scope best for different ranges?

So, I see Red Dots, Mil Dots, super-duper dots, etc. out there. Can it be broken down into ranges? Can you tell me when you'd use a mil dot and when you'd use a red dot? And when do you switch to regular scopes like 9x?

My scope is high mag (6x-24x) and has a 10x mil dot reticle. I use that to shoot anywhere from 50/75 yards all the way out to max effective range. I use the Burris Fastfire II Red Dot for ranges anywhere from 10 - 100 yards.

It's all preference. Several guys use irons out to 600 yards and all that but the above set up is my general use preference

223 I like high mag like 20X and above (out to 500 yards)
308 I like 10X and below (out to 800 yards)

I use a 1-4 for 3 gun out to 400 yards, and a 3-9 for sniper out to 600 yards.

It depends on what the firearm is to be used for. Do not need 18+ power for big game hunting but good tfor target or some varmit shooting.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.
