It would be helpful to know what kind of shooting you plan to use your Mini-14 for. What kind of targets and at what ranges.

I put a weaver 4X on my mini14 and 30. They work fine. They are fair weather fun guns. It I was to use them for more I would put Leupold's on them. You can get a good used Leupold off e-bay for a reasonable price.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Save your money and get a Leupold MARK AR.

I'm with Mike, I own both the Mark AR and the Vortex Strikefire(bought from CSTac) and both are great but the Mark AR spends more time on my M4. My buddy however is going to buy a Strikefire for his Mini 14. If I had a Mini 14 I would use the Vortex Strikefire.

Vortex, Bushnell or Nikon. Do not go NcStar, BSA, Barska, Simmons, etc.. I see everyone so far is saying save up and get a scope worth your while. They're right because you don't want to buy something you don't want and that will potentially malfunction, you'll just be back dropping $300-$400 at least, having wasted that $150 that could have gone towards that scope. But Vortex, Bushnell, and Nikon do well. I'd suggest spending $199 there if you can, make sure you get a focus
