torqueing rings

I just got new IOR steel rings and don't have a 20-25 inch pound wrench, the one I have starts at 40. So whats a way to guess what 20 inch pounds feels like? So how do you guys do it without one?

Use an Allen type wrench key. Put the long end into the screw's top. Use the short end to tighten using your thumb and index finger. Tighten as much as you can using the thumb and finger. By the time it starts to hurt, you will be around 15-25 in. lbs. If you are using aluminum rings, 15 in. lb. is recommended. Steel rings can be tightened to 25 in. lbs.

Some recommend to tighten as described then use the short end and tighten 1/4-1/8 of a turn more. Just don't over tighten.

I would buy an adjustable torque wrench

ditto, on using the short end of an allen or torx wrench. if it's a torx type, the teeth on the wrench will start bending when you're over-torqued.

decent toque wrenches are inexpensive at Harbor Freights. since they have many applications, such as changing spark plugs, it's not a bad idea to invest in one.
