rifle scope on pistol?

Has anyone tried a rifle scope on a handgun? I've got a nice Leupold laying around and I'm thinking of putting it on a .308 pistol (when I get it). Will this work or is this a really bad idea?

Won't work because of the "eye relief" for a rifle scope is about 3-4 inches.

Get a long eye-relief scope like the Leupold scout model.

I figured it wouldn't work,but I was hoping there was a way....
Maybe with a hockey mask?

I'll just get a pistol scope.
