What Sights on top of your AR?

Just trying to get a feel for what the preferences are.

What sights do you have on your AR and why do you have that setup? What type of shooting do you do?

Currently I have the Iron sights. I want a Trijicon Acog, but I am having a problem shelling out more dough than my AR15. I would like to shoot targets at over 100 meters and would like a 3-9x32or42 magnification. I am looking at the NcStars for about 120 but I hear bad things about them. I guess I just like the look of the Trijicon, but love the magnification of the hunting scopes.

Trijicon TR24 1-4X for 3-gun. Great glass, variable magnification and no batteries.

EOTech XPS and Vortex VMX3 magnifier for class gun. Best reticule for compromised position shooting.

I run a Bushnell Trophy red dot and use a GG&G BUIS. I can easily hit a steel plate at 300 yds with irons and can reach 400 with the red dot. Just a simple plinker and weekend warrior. The Bushnell red dot works but i had to buy taller rings to see over the FSB because I use the A2 front sight. I plan on getting an Aimpoint when the money allows.

I like the A2 rear sights without carrying handle on a flat top. I like having both elevation and windage. I laugh when people say they need a red dot or magnification because they want to shoot further than 100 yards. Optics are cool and definitely has their uses, but shooting irons is just too much fun to not have full A2 sights, even with optics mounted.

Troy front and rear. (HK front)
Primary Arms Micro. Had EoTech, but wasn't happy with it. Decided to try try Aimpoint compM2 and was happier, but still not quite what I was looking for. Stopped buying the real deal until I knew exactly what I was looking for.
I've been happiest with the micro concept/design/feel.
I still want to try other things before I go for the real deal. Primarily variable power.
Shooting is usually around 100 yards.

I just roll with an Aimpoint T-1 on a 14.5" or 16" carbine

At a long range shoot in OR, i was able to hit 10*12" steel targets with the T-1 and 55 gr reloads 80% of the time at 400 yards. I don't foresee having to ever take a 400 yard shot as a civilian, haha.

On my SPR-ish rifle, I have a 3-9X TR20 accupoint. Not a bad scope for this rifle and cartridge.

Having shot my friend's bolt guns with Vortex and Nightforce optics in the 20X range, I'm not about trying to turn an AR into a precision oriented rifle.

I use MBUS sights because they are cheap and they work great.

Consider your needs before buying. As a civilian guy that likes shooting sports, and is shooting at 200 yards max in competitive settings (haven't done 3 gun yet, LOL), the aimpoint's battery life, durability, and ease of use is what sold me. Of course, my buddy in the 3rd SFG is a much bigger fan of Eotechs and Elcan optics given his needs in a military setting.

I switch back and forth between a Barska ac10770 1.5-4.5x with a mil dot reticle for better accuracy at longer ranges(it's actually a very nice scope for the money) and a Millet DMS 1-4x for closer fast acquisition target shooting. I almost never use the Yankee Hill back-up flippers except to prove to myself that still can if I ever needed to. I should sell those...

For someone new to scopes and sites there are to many choices!

How to pick one? They seem to range from $70 up to LOTS.

                          I'm a plinker, usually 50-100 yards.

Detachable carry handle with standard front and rear iron sights.

No interest in any optics, though it was a long decision to make. I learned/trained on iron sights, they don't need batteries, and if I need to hit anything at distances where a scope would be useful, then I feel my AR isn't the right weapon.

Just my own personal preferences here, by the way =)

I really like my detachable carry handle with fsp but I'm thinking about going with a Primary arms gen 2 micro red dot and a rear magpul mbus.
