    Accessories for Remington 700 .308-->Updated, Thank you<--

I'm hoping to pick up my Remington 700 soon. Now I'm looking to get all the little things for it. I would like to setup for long range (100-1000 yard) So here are my questions.

What scope base options would I need?

    Harris Bipod fixed or swivel?

and other accessories fellow gunners suggest?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    1) Badger Ordnance, EGW, Seekins or Nightforce

    2) Harris 6-9" Notched, swivel

Other accessories would be ammo, ammo, and more ammo. Well, a scope and rings to go along with the base would be nice too.

I have a scope and rings already. I have been reading that for longer distances you would need a a certain size or style of scope base to get the most elevation adjustments out of the scope.
As for ammo, I have my reloading station almost finished. Hope it saves me money and I can find that specialized sweet load for the rifle.

I'm assuming that you're shooting a 308, most people like a 20 MOA base (That's not a name brand, it's the amount of angle built into the base to raise the point of impact) for 1,000 yard shooting.

that's what I was looking for, thanks Fjold.
~Any recommendations on a "20moa" base brand that is better than another?

          ~Opinions on 1 piece or 2 piece?

~How will that base do at 100 yards? Still ok?

            Anyone?

Should I have medium or high rings with a 20 moa base?

Base would be a one piece made specifically for your 700 sa, most of the high end brands will sufice.

The height of your rings depends on the scope size you are using and the base you are using,.

I would suggest to purchase the base and install it, place your scope on top of the base (without rings, do this carefully, on a stable vise or something like it) and measure from centr of scope to base, and purchase a set of rings that will fit that measurement closely.

A 20 MOA base would do just fine @ 100yards

thank you for your help. My scope is a 4-15x50mm and I have a set of low rings. So I guess all I need to get now is the Bipod and base.

Cant wait to send a few down range

Start with a Remington 700 SPS Varmint, and throw the stock away. Then start to work your way forward.

A good stock (H.S. Precision) a good scope, etc. 26 inch heavy barrel will help with long range shooting. Somewhat higher velocity than 20" barrel Tactical model. Good luck!

Got the word today, My 5R has arrived! Now just waiting for the 8 more days to pick her up.

I just need to pick up a 20 MOA base and should be ready to start down range.

how would you calculate or figure out if your scope is capable of the required elevation to shoot 1000 yards without a canted base?

What scope do you have? Read the manual or search online to see what the total MOA travel is.
