Acog on a Socom2

Has anyone ever mounted a trijicon Acog on a Socom2?

This was a setup I was planning on purchasing but when I was at the gun store recently, the employee there told me that you can't realistically use an ACOG on the socom2.

1)Because even if you buy the extended rail that floats right above the chamber, you still can't mount the acog back far enough to comfortable look through it.(meaning you have to adjust the way you would normally hold a rifle to scoot up closer to bring your eye closer to the ACOG)

2) Even if number 1 isn't a problem, because of the angle of the stock, your head is not inline with the height of how high the ACOG situates ontop of the rifle. So you'd always have to raise your head slightly to actually see through the ACOG meaning you may not have a tight compact grip with your rifle.

So does anyone have experience and can chime in?

Doesn't look like they'll let you order it though. From that link it looks like they are government sales only (granted I only poked around their site for a minute or two). Have you seen it in a retail enviorment for sale to civilians?

The GDI is readily available and even had a group buy last year. The Smith may be tougher, but I have seen them at his table at the SAR show.

I think it really depends on what kind of ACOG you're looking at. I would suggest a lower magnification model over 5x or 6x model. Don't be swayed too much to get one with a .308 BDC - go with something simple.

Looking at the cost of some of these upgrades, between the purchase of a Socom2, buying the additional rail systems, and the type of Acog I want, i'm looking at close to $5K+

I may just settle for an AR. I was really hopping to build a .308 though.

Springfield is making a new mount (4th gen) that supposedly, moves the scope closer to the eye, but I haven't heard much about it yet. It looks kind of like a cross between the Smith ACOG mount and the original ARMS 18 with split rail.

Forgot to ask if you were thinking of the Socom II with the short or long rail.

Or why not get the M1A scout? I always thought the tri rail on the SocomII was pointless.

Thats kinda harsh. He is right on the height issue. I had a EoTech on my Scout/Squad. Without the use of a cheek riser of some sort, the sight alignment is off.

Now a good employee would have followed on what he told the OP by giving him the options to make it work and selling those items to the customer.
