    Leupold Mark Ar Question??

I purchased a Mark Ar 3-9x40mm Mil Dot for my sig 556 the thing is the BDC Turret is for a 55 grain .223 my understanding is that my sig will work better with a hevier grain like 62gr or heavier because it's a 1-7 twist. I'm going to sight in my rifle with a 55 gr but say later I want to use a heavier bullet would I still be able to use the adjustments on my scope? Kind of compensate being that the turret is for 55gr? It's gonna be for the time being while I buy another BDC turret Thanks

They're made for a 55gr round anyway. That is what they're calibrated for.

I've got to assume it is going to be "close enough for government work". Just exactly how far out there do you plan on shooting? Without knowing you, I would guess that long before the BDC starts to be noticably off your own personal shooting ability would already be throwing you off a lot more. Especially if you have a stock military trigger. If you were locking the rifle in a vice, you might actually notice a difference at a significant distance. But I know my shooting ability would fail me long before the scope did. My guess is, the scope will serve you just fine and help you get good hits. If you plan on taking a lot of 500-600 yard shots, you can always upgrade to a different scope. Within 200 yards I seriously doubt you'll notice a difference. The longest range I have in my area is only 100 yards, so I would never notice anything.

            That said. I'm no expert.

did some reading on the Leupold Mark AR scopes and the Leupold Custom shop makes custom turrets to fit you specific bullet weight.

What is the muzzle velocity of your sig with your 60ish grain loads? If you can figure that out, run it through a ballistic calculator online with whatever bullet you want and then compare it to what the leupie is calibrated to use. You should be able to come up with something that is very close if you are handloading.

BTW with a 200 yard zero you should only have to hold over maybe a mil or so at 400 so the BDC turret might not get a lot of use anyways, although they are fun to play with.

^^^^ What hoop said. Unless you are shooting really long distances just use the reticle to hold over. BDC isn't that useful for 99% of shooters.
