    Mark AR 1.5X4

Hello Fellow CalGunners! Im looking to put some Glass on top of my 16" AR. A Buddy has a Trijicon Accupoint which I love but cant afford. =( So I was told to look into the Mark AR Series.

Rifle is used for range visits only.
Basically my question is... can direct me a place to purchase it? Since Im broke as a joke I'm hoping you could direct me to the lowest cost distributor, or maybe another CalGunner who wishes to sell his? A Few months back i read on this forum about an internet sight which sold demo shelf units, a link to that sights would be Great!

    Thanks for your time.

I can hit the paper out to 100 yards with irons. Not consistently in the middle but around the target (6" ShootN'C) but with a scope listed above on my buddys AR 16" i can hit consistently in the middle. Sure helps when you can see things up close.

swfa.com has the samples. Go to the website and then on the top you'll see Samplelist.com. Keep an eye on that for some nice deals.

It is a great scope. I use mine on my first AR build with Larue scope mount, it is now my favorite! Great scope for the money. Check it

I have a hard time with these types of scopes. I could not for the life of me get my friends on paper at 200. it was something with the reticle/eye relief that just didn't work for me. I would suggest trying out (looking through) as many scopes as possible before settling on one type. I'm currently using a fixed 4x with bdc reticle and love it.

I love the eye relief of this scope. I had a 4x fACOG on this rifle, and it worked ok. Eye relief was about 1.5 inches. Also, any misalignment down the scope and I would be shooting off about as much as an inch off at 100 yards. I don't have that problem with this scope, and I like being able to have less magnification for closer quarters aiming. I wish it were 1-4x power. Can't have everything I guess.

Will this type of scope only work with flip up front sights?

Im looking at getting this scope, Leopold Mark AR, but I got front A2 Iron sights. Will the iron sights get in the way?

It will not co-witness. Also, the front sight will be noticeable at lower magnification, but once you get above 2x it is no longer visible. I have another AR with a front A2 sight that I have used it on and it is a slight nuisance when set to the lowest magnification. Wasn't a deal breaker for me but some shooters do not like it.

Leupold makes a Var-II in 1-4X variable that appears to be essentially the same scope (1" diameter tube, 20 mm objective lense). I have seen both this scope and the Mark 1.5-4x and was impressed with both the quality of the glass/ scope. On low power (1x or 1.5x), you should be able to shoot with both eyes open.

Another alternative could be the Nikon African 1-4x (entry model) scope. I have not seen the entry model, but the high-end model ($1K) was very well made/ impressive. Others have commented that it is a great scope. I own several Nikons of similar build quality and have been very pleased with the performance/ value.

The Nikon 1-4x (entry model) 20 mm lense is essentially the same (dimensions) as the Leupold and should offer similar performance. In my opinion, it seems that the Leupold glass is slighter better (as someone suggested, examine a few scopes yourself).

However, none of these scopes will ever be a true 1x and keep in mind that many of the manufacturers graciously round-off there specs on the actual power of their scopes, Leupold being a classic example (often 2.5 or 3.5 is actually only 2x or 3x power/ check specs. on their website).

Also, bear in mind with an AR type rifle. The optimum set-up will be a La Rue or ADM type one-piece mount. I have seen shooters have difficulty mounting a scope on the AR rifle with standard rings (usually too low) or with a riser and rings. The one piece mount is the way to go. An inexpensive alternative would be to use either the new Burris 1-piece mount, Wilson's, or just a set of Warne AR15 (ultra-high) scope rings. -all would be well under $100 and more likely $65-85, plus tax/ shipping.

P.S. Of the three scopes above, I would opt for the standard Var-II in 1-4x. Any of the three should be available for under $300 at Natchez Shooters, SWFA, Cabelas, or Midway.

I own both Nikon and Leupold scopes, they are both a quality product.
