    First time mounting a scope

I bought a new scope for my Ruger 10/22 and thought I would just remove the old scope and replace it with my new scope...

In researching this I have found that midway sells the Wheeler Engineering Scope Mounting Kit 1" http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct...tnumber=453687 that has everything but the kitchen sink for mounting a scope. Is this really neccesary? The kit costs $100 and I don't want to spend the money right now. I was thinking of getting a torque wrench to precisely torque down the bolts and leaving it at that. If I really need to use alignment rods and levels to mount the scope, I may just take it down to my local gunsmith and have him mount it. What do you guys do when mounting a scope? I would welcome advice from anyone who is knowledgeable about mounting scopes.

    Thanks,

Ok I think that answers my question. I really do need a scope installation kit AND a gun vise to do this right. I am a noob but I'm learning. Thanks Mike.
