ADM mount for nikon scope

I bought a nikon monarch 4-12 SF mil dot. I want to mount it on my precision AR build with an ADM recon mount. would it be possible just to use the ADM recon mount with about half the length extended or should I spring for the recon x that has full extension? I know its only a ten dollar difference but why buy something you dont need? any input is appreciated. thanks.

The half-extended version worked well with my Bushnell 6500 with the base of the mount flush against the front rail on my flattop.
