    Unertl

I bought my father a Unertl scope a while ago, and we're still trying to figure it out.

It's a 10 power 1.25" scope with POSA mounts. We are curious about the recoil spring, the scale on the objective lens, and the fact that we cannot adjust for windage without loosening the screw that clamps the rings onto the mount.

Any other info that you can offer us will be appreciated. Especially tips on sighting in, general scope useage, etc.

    Thanks!
    Jason

You should email the guy who has the website you got the picture from. He should be able to help you.

I did, when I first got the scope. He never responded.

Curious, I have a couple of older target scopes including an Unertl 10X 1.25".

I have not had any trouble with mine adjusting for either windage or elevation but I also do not have posa mounts or bases. You are aware that you are supposed to use matching bases/mounts on these right? Not supposed to use posa with standard either way as far as I understand.

Is the screw that you are refering to as having to loosen the thumbscrew on the mount or the small machine screw located at the top right corner of the mount?

For reference on these scopes the rings are called the mount and the base is the little steel block that screws on to the receiver or barrel to attach the mount to.

The adjustment scale on the objective is there to provide direction in setting up the scope for parallax and focus. If it is set too far one way or the other you will have a blurry target image. The sunshade is the lock ring for this adjustment. You should be able to loosen the sunshade/lock ring by turning it counter clockwise looking at the front end of the scope, just about a turn should get if free enough. Once this is done you can rotate the second ring to adjust the scope to what ever range needed. The markings are just a general guide so use your eyes on the target image to determine when you have it right. If you are shooting at 25 yds it will be off at 200 and vice versa, these scopes are that sensitive to adjustment.

Adjustment for the reticle is done at the eyepiece. Loosen the eyepiece lock ring and turn it forward enough to where you can adjust the eyepiece a bit. Point the scope at a clear and plain background a good distance away and adjust the eyepiece until the reticle is sharp. Just reset the eyepiece lock ring and that part is done.

These two adjustments are independant of each other, and both need to be done to suit the individual eye of the shooter.

A lot of the older Unertl scopes need to have windage and elevation screws cleaned as they get sticky/frozen from dry grease or no oil over time.

The spring plunger also suffers from this.

If your interesting in fixing/cleaning it I can show you how, takes about 30 min's with a toothbrush, WD40, cotton swabs, and acetone.
