    54moa enough for 1000yds

looking to step up my scope on my 700 to something a little beefier than my buckmaster, and retire it down to my ar. been looking at the Nikon monarch 5-20 scope. but it only has 34 internal moa adjustment plus i have a 20moa scope mount on mine.
54total going to be enough to cover a wide range of ammo. i typically shot what i can get ahold of so its not always going to be the same ammo. some are lighter 147gr to 175 rounds im going to probably use.

I can make custom shooting targets and paracord accesories. PM me.

Depending on your environment, generally about 37-40 moa is more than enough to get to 1000 yards with a 100 yard zero with 175gr SMK.

34moa of total elevation travel with a 20moa base is NOT going to give you 54moa. If everything is ideal then you will be in the middle of your adjustment range which would be 17moa UP/17moa DOWN. If you put that scope on a 20moa base, you will have a problem obtaining a 100yd ZERO since you will be or very close to bottoming out. Even bottomed out you will only have 34moa of available adjustment. If you are shooting a .308Win, that is not enough to get to 1000yds.

A 20moa base does not give you more adjustment. What it does is give back more of your available elevation adjustment.

Depends on where your scope zeroes.

My 6.5x284 with the 20MOA base zeroed 18" high at 100 yards. I had all the room that I needed to get to 1,000 yards but couldn't shoot it at 100 yards. Just the way that my receiver and scope mount worked together couldn't get me on paper at 100 yards.

Are you building a dedicated 1000 yard rifle? If so, try it and see if it works. If you want to shoot at different distances, you probably want a little more adjustment in your scope.

damn..didnt consider it not having enough travel down to get a zero...

its not a dedicated 1000yds its more of a where ever we can get a target to ill shot at.

so what should i be looking at for a minimum. not set on the scope. just have a lot of time with the scopes and they have always done very well. trying to keep it 500-600

If you're still looking check out the bushnell stuff, they have several scopes in that price range, or try and find a nikon tactical.

Otherwise I think your best bet is to wait til the Vortex PST scopes are out.

Also keep in mind that usually the higher magnification adjustable scopes will have less up+down adjustment range, so maybe look at fixed 10X or 3-12 scopes?

I think you'll be real close. Your scope will be bottomed out to get a 100yd zero. If you want to go from 100 to 1000 I would definately be looking for a scope with a higher adjustment range.
