    affordable red dot scope

Let me start by saying I did a search and could not find anything.

I looking for a red dot scope for my Ket tec SU16 and was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction?

i'm looking for the best value...

The Kel tec is a $500 gun and I really dont want to spend a couple of hundred for optics unless it really worth it.

What are the considerations when looking for a scope?
Some people say..."holding zero?" others say the lens or type of battery????

It it just preference between Scopes that have a tube and others that are tubeless?

    Please advise.

I would look at Primary Arms or a vortex strikefire bright red dot. Both get good reviews and are considered to be pretty good.

^^^What he said. I'd also throw in the Sightmark Aimpoint style red dot.

I do not have one, let me know if you like it so I can consider it. We have one member here, Jeffu and his red dots have good reviews.

first, do you want a red dot or a scope? they are two different things.

          a red dot is un-magnified.

a scope usually has a power magnification, whether its fixed (4x) or variable (3-9). <~~~just examples

i agree with the others on Primary Arms or Vortex strikefire.

I had both, and liked the PA better. I had the M3 style, put it through 2500 rounds in 2 months to test the waters of an aimpoint, without the cost.

I didnt like the location of the buttons on the Vortex. the glass was very purple, and the dot was not bright enough. I hear they came out with a Red only dot, and it is MUCH brighter; but for my i just didnt like the controls on it.

Made in China, knockoffs, refurbs that claim to be "new":

that's with all that junk on ebay.

Don't get me wrong, of course there are some people that are legitimate, but be wary.

Primary Arms stand behind his product.

                        .

Holding zero is pretty important for any kind of aiming device. What good is an aiming device that will not hold zero? The point of an aiming device is to repeatably hit what you aim at. If your device does not hold zero, then it really isn't an aiming device is it?

The other issues are really just going to depend on what use you have planned for it. Since it's a keltec I'm guessing you're not planning on hardcore combat. So really you just want something reliable that will give you the performance you want.

Would the PAs hold their zeros well enough for a 12 gauge shooting buck and birdshot?

Cheap. Here is one I bought online, a Walther 1x30 red dot knockoff for 20 bucks shipped. First shot from a Beretta Neos 6.5, complete failure. No returns. Hate myself for not reminding myself the old quote "cheap now, expensive twice."
