Less expensive 4x optic options for a .308 AR?

So I know you get what you pay for, but are there any 3,4 or 5x optics (similar to ACOG) style that are less expensive? In a perfect world i would love a trijicon, but just can't get myslef to pay in the $1000 range for a scope. This is for my new .DPMS style .308 AR build. This is just for shooting fun and maybe pig hunting. I'm going to war, and my life isnt going to depend on it. ANY SUGGESTIONS? Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks!

Check out the Millet DMS (designated marksman scope). You should be able to find one with rings for well under 300$ 1-4 adjustable with dot n a donut reticule. It gets really good reviews(for a 300$ scope). Sopposedly the eye relief is enough to use it as a dot sight with both eyes open if your not to pickey. Or get rings that would allow you to run a Burris fastfire dot on top. Im thinking of trying a similar system on my Socom 2 and figure I put it on my mini 30 when I can afford what I want on my M1. I think Konus makes a decent saimilar set up for about the same price. Definitley report back with whatever you do. I am in the same boat. Phil PS if you get something and dont mind a little company at the range Id love to take a look as Im in SC as well.

I've been looking for something similar, and I think the Vortex Viper PST 1-4x that's due to come out in the next month or 2 is the ticket. Really good initial impressions from folks who saw them at SHOT, and they'll be about $500. The Millet has had mixed reviews from what I've read, but I never seen one, so I dunno. For $200 bucks, can't really complain though.
This may sound strange and unbelievable to you, but it is real and true.
