scope in question. heard people talking about the scopes not handling larger calibers but its only 223 so not predicting problems.

I recently purchased that very scope and I got to try it out yesterday. It was mounted on a 10/22 with a TacSol base and Leupold QRW rings.

Observations about the scope I made before shooting:
decent glass, thick reticle, turrets exhibited some hysteresis, but are not quite "mushy."

Shooting observations: The eyebox was bigger and easier to get behind than the Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x40 AO it replaced. The sight picture was very good; the scope has excellent optical quality for the price. However, I found the thick reticle to be obtrusively thick for my tastes.

The bad: It would not hold zero. After about 5-15 shots, you'd get a flyer. Or at least you thought it was a flyer, because that's where your new zero is. I would therefore hesitate to put this scope on a centerfire rifle.

I understand Mueller has great CS, and I will contact them soon about problems holding zero. Will keep you updated on how they help me out.

No personal experience with the Mueller scope, but I'm not a big fan of the mil dot being calibrated at 10X on a 14X scope. IMHO, mil dots should be calibrated for the max magnification setting to make it easier to set up without having to move around and look at the adjustment ring of the scope. Another option is to use a First Focal Plane reticle that changes size with the magnification level, staying calibrated for ranging and bullet drop compensation at all power levels.

In the same price range as the Mueller, I would suggest taking a look at the Famous Maker/FM Optics 4-14X44 Mil Dot FFP scope:

It has some great features, and is an excellent scope for the money. Decent glass, good eye relief (4+ inches), and 75 to 80 MOA of internal travel in 1/4 MOA clicks. I have 3 of these with plans for more. No problems with holding zero on any of them, and tracking has been perfect as well. The only negative thing I can say about them is that the included scope covers were garbage. Butler Creek #18(Eye) and #34(Obj) fix that issue though.

Fortunately I've never had to deal with their service department yet, if they even have one. At the price point on the Famous Maker, I'm pretty sure that any repair work or quality issues are gonna be a pain to work out. Probably only a little more expensive, and much faster to just buy a replacement if it craps out.

They definitely do look quite a bit like the Falcon Menace 4-14X44 scopes, and judging by the nearly identical specs (Weight, eye relief, magnification range, exit pupil, etc) between the two, it's a fair bet that the Famous Maker is made in the same factory as the Falcon scopes. I'm sure the Falcon scopes get a better QA inspection once they reach the distributor (Falcon) in England to weed out problem scopes. There's probably a much higher chance of getting a lemon from Famous Maker, but so far I haven't seen one out of the 3 scopes I have, and 2 others that friends of mine are using.
