    Long Range Scope

I'm starting to build a 6.5 Grendel and would like to get it solid at 1k. I'm just not sure what size scope I would need to start working at those ranges.

I currently have a Leupold Tactical Vari X III Long Range M3 illuminated, but I dont feel like I'm going to get the distance shots out of this one.

I'm look at all price ranges and if I'm going to do this I plan on doing it right so all info is welcome..

    Thank You

What kind of shooting do you have in mind? Competitions? Multiple target/distances? Hunting?

Whats the max you want to spend?

I'm actually looking for target at this point, multiple target options. No comp no hunting unless it is shooting back.

I would like to try and keep it under $1500-$2k

I would like to spend what is needed to get what I want out of it, but I would like to keep the price in a moderate range.

      Thanks

In that price range, there are many options. If you haven't already, go over first focal plane vs. second and if that matters to you.

In SFP options, Nightforce is the way to go. The 3.5-15x50 is just about perfect. I'd go for the MLR reticle and mil knobs.

For FFP, most scopes are above that price range. The Nightforce F1 and the Vortex Razor are close. I'd take the NF of the 2. The Premier Heritage is close as well and has fantastic glass. But reliability is suspect. Mine had to go back to the factory twice in the first few months. I'm going to give them a couple years to work thing out before trying one again. If you want to up the $$$ a bit, look at Schmidt and Bender. The 4-16 PMII would be a good choice. They finally have a US service center so it doesn't take 4+ months to get it back to you if it goes down.

From someone with two Premiers I would take Ryan's advice and go the NF.

Would you recommend the standard or Zero Stop?

I like what I'm reading about them and I think the price is fair as I'm finding it at around $1700 with MLR and Zero Stop. Just saw it on optics planet. Also do you think this could be ordered for less at my local dealer or would I be better off going through the net to obtain this?

The reviews on the Schmidt and Bender are amazing, but I need to learn a lot more about shooting at this range as appose to the tactical shooting I'm used to before I spend that much.

              Thanks again...

MLR, mil knobs, and zero stop. Perfect. Talk to Mike at CS Tactical.

For years people shoot 1K with a 10X, Most today go 10x-25x depending on your budget, I'd look at a Nightforce NXS 22x model. NP-R2 for MOA is my preference
