The scopes on this site says "OK for 50 cal":
I thank impactco for the lead. I have not found any other so inexpensive of a scope that clearly says it is OK for 50 cal.
Any scope that uses wires for the crosshairs is subject to 50 cal destruction, I would think. If the reticle is complicated (multiple cross lines, mil-dots or ???), then it must be etched in glass and put on the plane where the wire cross hairs would normally go. I would think the glass plate to be stronger than wire crosshairs, in general, but, of course, there is more to a scope than its cross hairs!
Right now we are leaning towards this scope family. We are up in the air about power, though. 16X might be hard to find the target (metal animal targets at 300 to 800 yds) and 10x might not give enough magnification to see the target well enough to accurately aim.
I have a lot of high power scopes (some up to over 20X) but I shoot on paper with them and don't have to find the target in the brush as we will have to do with the steel targets. We may have to run some tests to see if 10x is enough (???). Then there is the mounts which may have to have an angle to them to get the scope zeroed in elevation, if the scope does not have enough elevation adjust. But one problem at a time.
We are already projecting a final cost for everything (gun, scope, mounts, press, dies, components) that is way over our original budget but we are proceeding anyway ("DAMN the torpedoes, full speed ahead!"). We will NOT blow the budget any farther with an expensive ($1000+) scope!
I sure hope this 50 cal gun is worth the effort and costs!
