The scopes on this site says "OK for 50 cal":

I thank impactco for the lead. I have not found any other so inexpensive of a scope that clearly says it is OK for 50 cal.

Any scope that uses wires for the crosshairs is subject to 50 cal destruction, I would think. If the reticle is complicated (multiple cross lines, mil-dots or ???), then it must be etched in glass and put on the plane where the wire cross hairs would normally go. I would think the glass plate to be stronger than wire crosshairs, in general, but, of course, there is more to a scope than its cross hairs!

Right now we are leaning towards this scope family. We are up in the air about power, though. 16X might be hard to find the target (metal animal targets at 300 to 800 yds) and 10x might not give enough magnification to see the target well enough to accurately aim.

I have a lot of high power scopes (some up to over 20X) but I shoot on paper with them and don't have to find the target in the brush as we will have to do with the steel targets. We may have to run some tests to see if 10x is enough (???). Then there is the mounts which may have to have an angle to them to get the scope zeroed in elevation, if the scope does not have enough elevation adjust. But one problem at a time.

We are already projecting a final cost for everything (gun, scope, mounts, press, dies, components) that is way over our original budget but we are proceeding anyway ("DAMN the torpedoes, full speed ahead!"). We will NOT blow the budget any farther with an expensive ($1000+) scope!

I sure hope this 50 cal gun is worth the effort and costs!

Those are the Super Sniper scopes that we have been talking about. I'm torn on magnification as well. I prefer 20 or greater because, I WANT to see the mirage. Most people don't. I really don't think a 10x would be my choice at 800 yards. The 16x would work for you and the glass tends to be clearer than the 20x. Something to consider is that these scopes really hold their value when it comes time to part with them. I've seen them go for $280 used! So, get one of each and keep the one(s) you like best.

I was at Angeles range this past weekend shooting the 600 yd steel with a 16x SS. The 16x is perfect for this distance, at least for me. Oddly, one of my shots hit the small red pig silhouette and knocked it off it's support onto the ground. From what I was told, that target is very heavy 1" steel. Gotta love shooting .50!

Although I haven't made it out there in a few months, I still remember my last shot at that pig, I did the same thing.

Years ago, when we first started getting together at ASR for the .50 shoots, we had an informal competition to see who could hit the little pig the most times with the ultimate goal of knocking it from it's peg..
It was set out at 700yds back then as well.
I was shooting my early Serbu BFG with a 20x SS scope going back and forth with another guy shooting a Windrunner... he'd ding it, I'd ding it... 1x, 2x ,3x 4x... then I choked under pressure and pulled the fifth round... he hit again AND knocked it off...
Fun times...and cheap AMAX bullets (only .89 back then...)

Fun! We can only dream of $.89 AMAX bullets now....

I wonder why they pulled the 700yd line back to 600?

I've had 2 SuperSnipers (both 20x). Both failed on my Serbu BFG and UltraMag50.

Up until recently when I sold my UltraMag50, a IOR Valdada 10x56 sat on it. That scope was perfect on the rifle and held true.

Not sure the newer gen SuperSnipers are better than the ones I had (about 6 years ago), but I don't think I'd trust a SuperSniper again on a 50 BMG.
