Ready to buy a scope and need your opinion!

    I have pof upper p415.
I'm finally ready to buy a budget scope for my ar15. I don't know much about scopes other than what i've read. I don't have any experience with them on rifles so, this will be the first for me. I have a couple of links to optic planets website.
I would like your "expert"opinion on the 2 scope that I'm looking to buy. They have specs on both the scopes on the website and it would be super duper nice if you guys can tell me the pros and cons between the 2 scopes.

On the redfield spec: Elevation Adjustment Range (MOA): 56
Windage Adjustment Range (MOA): 56 What does this mean? Is this good? How is this comparable to the Nikon prostaff?

Also what about the eye relief? Which one is better between the 2?

Redfield Revolution: Is the accu-range really needed?
    Redfield Revolution

Nikon ProStaff: Is BDC rectile really needed?
    Nikon prostaff

To mount the scope on to my ar i'm looking into buying the Leupold Quick Release Weaver Style QRW Rings: Quick Release Weaver Style Rings 30MM Low Gl or MT. I don't know what the difference between the GI or MT?.
In your opinion is the 30mm mount to low? Or should I stick with the 1" mount?
What do you guys think about this mount?

Leupold Quick Release Weaver Style QRW Rings:

    Butler Creek Flip-Open Scope Covers:

If there is any other brand similar to what i want would be great.

    Thanks.

The adjustments are to move the reticle to the point off impact which would be your zero. If you shoot at distances farther the what you zero it at you will adjust the elevation to compensate for bullet drop.

For your mounts you will need either 1" or 30mm depending on the scopes diameter. So if you buy a scope with a 1" tube you will need 1" rings. A 30mm tube is larger than 1", And the advantage of a larger tube is more adjustment in elevation and windage.
Those rings that you picked wont work, They are not for a picanny rail there for a weaver rail. You also are going to want tall rings so you will get a good cheek weld. I would recommend these http://swfa.com/Burris-AR-PEPR-1-Sco...nt-P12624.aspx
I had short rings and it was terrible.

I'm also considering optics as well. Cant afford a acog or eotech. So, i guess the next best thing is a knock off version.

What do you guys think of these brand of optics?

          TruGlo optic

stay away from knock offs. Of your choices, Bushnell is the best choice!

              ^ +1

These are very budget-minded scopes, especially for such a very fancy cool rifle like a P415. Well, many many shooters do collect funds for expensive rifles and then say they can't afford a passable scope. Cheap guns often work very well, but cheap scopes rarely work well or at all.

First, figure out what sort of shooting you are going to do, and choose a magnification range that is practical. Also, choose a reticle. In answer to your question, no, a BDC reticle is not necessary, but some folks like them. Others hate them. Range-estimating reticles like mildots are very popular, but unless you are shooting at unknown distances, they are unnecessary.

              Then read this: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=263710

Then, eat ramen and start saving for a Vortex Viper, SWFA Super Sniper, Nikon Buckmaster or Monarch, Sightron SII or SIII, Trijicon, Meopta. I feel these brands give you the most bang for the buck.

Picatinny rails and Weaver rails have the same cross-sectional dimensions, so a Weaver ring will fit either system. The difference is that a picatinny rail has cross slots milled laterally to fit recoil lugs. A picatinny ring will therefore have a protrusion that will prevent it from fitting a weaver base making it exclusively picatinny compatible.

The most decent stuff you mentioned was Warne and Leupold QRW. I use the QRW rings and they are OK. The way the upper and lower rings come together makes it difficult to avoid leaving ring marks from installation. Seekins rings are by far my favorites, and I've also had success with LaRue mounts and Burris Signature Zee rings.

What type of shooting do you intend to do and at what distances factor in as other variables to consider. In general, you can go to your dealer or gun store to window shop. They should have a stock blank with mounts that you can try out different types of magnifications and reticles. Find the features you like, and if your bucks down, check out the pawn shops. Doen't be afraid to ask the gun shops if thay have any trade ins or used. Also I've seen some good deals at Walmart on dicontinued Leopold scopes ($235 marked down to $90). A good scope MSRP is going to start around $250 and go up. Many sites on line discount as well . Good shootin'.
