    Eotech prices

So I'm waffling around between an Aimpoint and an Eotech for my AR.

I like the Eotech reticle more than the Aimpoint's single dot. I like the amazing battery life the current Aimpoints provide. Eotech is less spendy and is American made.

The upshot is that I'm leaning towards an Eotech XPS2-0...

Best price I have so far is with Botach Defense, not Botach Tactical for $445.74 shipped.

    Resonable discussion is welcome!

I'm partial to Eotechs myself. Aimpoints are popular cause the military uses them alot and they can take a beating. I just like the Eotechs cause I feel I have more peripheral vision looking through the Eotechs than through the tube of an Aimpoint and sometimes have a hard time finding the dot in daylight unless you turn it up. This is just me though.

I prefer the EOTech to the Aimpoint because to me, the EOTech is more like looking through a window while the Aimpoint is more like looking through a tube...I guess it's six of one, half-dozen of the other for practical effect, but it feels like I can sight and keep an eye on the what's around easier with the EOTech.

And EOTech's 65 MOA/1 MOA reticle is MUCH easier for me to pick-up quickly.

Now if they could get the 50,000 hours of battery life that Aimpoint gets, that would be great! But CR123's are cheap enough if you buy in bulk and they keep for years.

      My .02...
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
      Come on...what harm??

Trijicon tri-power jk I like my buddy's eotech a lot, but I would rather have the fail safes of tritium and fiberoptic as well

I'm really liking what I've been reading so far about the XPS sights, they seem to have really got them squared away. The military uses allot of Eotechs too, they hold up well and are very durable.

I agree on the battery issue, I have a featureless build with plenty of room in the stock for spares.

Lol not nearly as much as they use aimpoint and trijicon. the tripower is like an aimpoint but much improved. Although had I not found it for only $18 more than the xps2-0 we wouldn't even be having this conversation. From What I hear they addressed their battery contact issues turning the battery sideways. I decided on the triji for the warranty and all the power options. If the tritium, fiber optic and battery all find a way to fail, then I will still have co-witness. lol

How do you use an Eotech or other "holographic" sight? Do you use it just like a iron sight where instead of lining up the rear peep, you line up the reticle with the front post or is the front post not used at all when you have this type of site in place?

you can use it either way. I like it better on a riser so you have clear reticle image. without the riser i think most of them are absolute co-witness

"LOL", how many times have been to Iraq or Afghanistan Noah? I certainly didn't intend to imply that Eotech sights were predominant.

AGOG's and other Triticon stuff, Aimpoint sights from some OLD stuff to the comp M4, Eotechs. There's all kinds of stuff out there.

Ya... you "use" the Eotech the same way you use an aimpoint. Put the dot on the target, compensate for range and wind, and put a hole in the target.

Most prefer either a lower 1/3rd co-witness, or folding irons. Without folding irons or the riser, theoretically, you would simply line up both sights with the dot... in which case, why spend the $400+ on the optics?

Battery life is simply a function of the difference in technology. A red dot is pretty basic in design... it's not much more than an LED that reflects off of the internal optics that are designed to keep the dot on target. The battery is simply powering the LED.
The Eotech is a little more involved being a holographic sight, and it draws more power.

You just put the dot on the target no matter how the reticle is lining up with the front sight. That's what I've always done and it hits the target every time: This goes for both my Eotech and my RDS (Red Dot Sight). Here are some pics showing what I mean. The gun was never moved....only the positioning of the camera. Notice how the center dot stays zeroed to the top of the car wheel no matter the camera's position and no matter where the front sight is in relation to the dot:

Wherever that dot sits, that's where the bullet goes (unless of course you are going out farther than 200 yds or so, you will need to compensate for bullet drop.....or wind)

Oh, and yes, this is a real Eotech. The reticle doesnt look pixelated in the pics, but in real life, it is.

Since you asked. lol Afghanistan 1 Iraq 0. Only had a beretta and occasionally an m16 with an acog. That is irrelevant to this conversation though since we are talking about eotechs I personally don't think the eotechs would have a problem standing up to the abuse. I just looked at the realism of getting a $700 trijicon tripower for the price of an eotech, otherwise I would have had no qualms about getting the xps2-0 myself.

Thanks for posting the pics. That is a great example

Anyone with a aimpoint want to put up the same example ?
