    Looking for new glass

What optics model would you recommend? and more importantly why?

I am in the market and doing my homework, I have looked at several models, but would like to hear from you. This will be going on my AR.

    I would like:

    Compact, 5-6" in length.

    Quality glass

    Can take punishment.

Has etched recticle, front focal plane.

Has bullet drop compensation for .223/5.56

Has illuminated recticle that can be seen in the day, well.

    exposed MOA knobs.

    variable power, or possibly fixed.

    At least 30mm tube.

    Price range, up to 1,000.00.

i have always liked acogs but as i got older i noticed that without a focus ring everything was blurry..so out went the acogs, the aimpoints and eotechs and on to the 1-4x's..i started with a millet, went on to the burris and finally a trijicon..got rid of them all either not great glass or i didn't like the reticle. up to a few days ago i wasn't sure what to get..i wanted a bdc as long as it was like a acog..then i started looking at the nightforces and us optics..kinda pricey..but nice..anyhow i picked up a slightly used uso sn-12..seems to have everything i want..it has the bdc reticle http://www.usoptics.com/product.php?partnumber=SN12-100

do i think its worth what they want for a new one?..no..but i got a fair deal

Well this has been an eyeopener and a bit frustrating. I can have what I am looking for, just not in my price range.

If I want scope as I am looking for, I will have to spend more $$ http://www.longrangesupply.com/index...fe79b4073b1bb1 configured the way I want, would run 1500.

If I want to sacrifice having a variable 1-4, I can get http://www.cactustactical.com/osc/va...cle-p-892.html, the "Pitbull" is a 1 or 4 magnification, but still over my price range.
        Or, http://www.cstactical.com/Store/OPTI...dle-mount.html

If I want to sacrifice length and exposed MOA knobs, I can get http://www.bigplanetgear.com/catalog...ret_id=1089039

So, what I have discovered so far is, I can't get what I want, in the 1000.00 price range I want to spend.

Significantly under the $1000 cap, but not available yet that I could find:

Yes, but like the Trijicon, I sacrifice the length. I was thinking about getting the Trijicon and buying the after market exposed knobs you can buy but, it is still longer than I want. Sigh

So, I bought the Valdada 3 x 25 QR-TS Scope with CQB Illuminated Reticle http://www.cactustactical.com/osc/va...cle-p-892.html. I want to thank Art, screen name cactustactical here, for getting me a great deal, and the ease it was to communicate with him.

My reasons were quality, price/bang for the buck, and looks of the unit itself. It lack variable power, and FFP, but I think I made the right choice. I really looked hard at the U.S optic SN4-100, I just could not justify spending the extra money. The choice I made brings me well under what I planned to spend, and I hope it will serve me well.
