    AR-10 scopes question

I've been looking at scopes to put on my AR-10 (that will hopefully be finished in a couple weeks) and wanted some advice on some mid range scopes that I will hopefully be able to use from 100 yards to (if I can find a place in the bay area) a 1000 yards.
I think I've narrowed it down to the following:

    1. Leupold Mark 2 6-18x40mm Adj. Obj. T1 mil dot $649.99 Cabela's

    2. Cabela's Alaskan Guide 4-16 SFx 52 EXT $319.99 Cabela's

    3. Millett Tactical Long Range LRS Rifle Scope 35mm
    Tube 6-25x 56mm Side Focus Mil-DotBar Reticle
    with Rings Matte $402.98 Midway

    4. Millett Tactical Long Range LRS Rifle Scope 35mm
Tube 6-25x 56mm Side Focus 1/10 Mil Adjustments
Illuminated Mil-DotBar Reticle with Rings Matte $459.99 Midway

    5. suggestions

    Thanks

Not that I have one, but I am looking at a Vortex Viper 6.5-20 x 50 mm with 30 mm tubes. Cost was just lowered to $499. I like their warranty and they have had some great reviews.

I own a Vortex Viper in 6.5X20X50 in target dot (30mm tubes). This is a great scope...as a matter of fact, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a comparable scope in this price range <just my opinion>. Lift up turrets to reset to zero - no tools required, very good glass and solidly built.

The other one to consider would be the SWFA Super Sniper.....these have really good reviews....for the dough, supposed to be great scopes.

        good luck

A USO SN3 is going on top of mine. If I decide to sell my USO, then I'll end up buying a Vortex FFP 4-16.

If 1000 yard shooting is in your plans, look for a scope with at least 75 to 80 moa of internal adjustment. More would be even better. Because of the flat mounting surface for optics on an AR platform, you will need a scope that has at least double the adjustment range that you will need to dial out to 1000 yards. For a 308, that would be somewhere around 35 to 40 moa of elevation adjustment needed for 1000 yards. Depending on how much internal adjustment gets used up while zeroing the scope, even 75 or 80 moa of total adjustment range may not be enough.

I have a super sniper 10X on mine, it's okay. All the people saying they are the greatest thing ever - more clear than a leupold Mk4/Zeiss yadda yadda - are full of it. It's mediocre as far as glass goes, but functional. I can see my target and it holds zero, although I have a heck of a time getting it focused to my satisfaction.

for honest to god 1000 yard shooting i'd go vortex over the ones you put, but for 500 yard or so target shooting the nikon monarch 3.5-10 mil dot with side focus and target turrets are on sale at natchez right now for 499.
