sighting in a new scope

ok here it is i just put a new scope on my 30/06 and need help on how to sight in at the range after bore sighting

Assuming you've already placed and leveled it - I start with a 25 yard target to make sure it will hit the target at 100 yrds. Then at 100 yrds you can zero the scope and slip the turrets to zero. Yep, start at 25 yards to get the gun on paper and adjust it to hit right above the point of aim 1" or so. Shoot a second target at 100 yards and adjust it for your desired point of impact.

not understanding the directions say to shoot 3 shots and then aiming at bullseye adjust to the center of the three shot group

i was thinking you adjust to the bullseye smeone told me to shoot 3 shots and then while keeping the crosshairs on bullseye adjust over to the center of the three shot group wherever that might be any imput would be great

You can do that with one shot if you are confident in your shooting ability, the ammunition, the gun and have a very good rest.

Put your rifle in the rest, shoot one shot and note where it lands on the target. Put your rifle back in the rest with the cross hairs on your original bullseye. Without moving the rifle at all, (not even a wiggle) adjust your crosshairs to meet the the bullet hole and you are sighted in.

When you are moving the crosshairs to the bullet hole you will move the adjustments backwards as you are moving the point of aim (POA) to the point of impact (POI) instead of the regular way of moving the POI to the POA

It's easier to just shoot one shot and adjust your scope like normal.

This assumes that the shooter, the gun and the ammunition can shoot to POA.

could you explain the normal way because i thought all you do is shoot at center target and if off just adjust to the center

Not to sound like an *** here, but have you ever been shooting before? Zeroing a scope is pretty basic stuff.

The normal way is to get a solid rest, shoot a 3 shots and if you're confident that your hold and everything was good, take the center of that group (let's say it is 3" high and 2" right) and adjust your scope 3" down and 2" to the left.

Repeat until you are hitting your point of aim.

Dont sweat it brother once you get on paper its just a matter of adjusting the windage and elevation to get it right where you want it.... cake!
