Is this Nikon scope any good?

I'm still looking for a reasonably priced scope to mount on a Remington 700 .308.
I found this one on Midway...

I was also considering the Nikon 4.5-14x40mm mil dot but the scope I linked to above is priced the same so I was thinking why not get some more magnification? Is there any disadvantage to getting a scope with a higher magnification?

This rifle will be used for range use and target practice out to 200, 300, 400 or more?

Nikon builds good stuff in that range... Always try and buy the best scope you can afford.

4.5 - 14 will get you well past 400 yrds. Consider jumping to a 50mm before more magnification.

i have one of the 6-18 on my rem700 .308 win. havent done much change to my zero wehn i go out tot he desert. only time i have to do any change in zero is when i change ammo, or when i go to different elevations, desert floor to palomar Mtn.



moutned in Leupold QRW medium height rings with nightforce 20moa singe piece base. has enough adjustment to reach out to 1000yds. and those are the second set of knobs that come with it.
