    Red dot

J, I have bought several red dots with 3x magnifers from marsh at primary arms .I have had high end aimpoints,EOtechs Trijicon,s and about everything you can mount on an AR rifle ,If you just wanted to get a high end set up I would say fine go ahead and spend the extra bucks for a high end setup and depending on the use police or 3 gun ect you will probably want a high end set up but if its your first set up and just looking for something to try out and see if you like it and maybe move up to a better unit then I would definately look at the primary arms merchandise, its top quality for chinese made and I have never had any issues and everything has held zero, brightness settings were comparable to high end units if not better in some cases and marsh will warranty whatever you buy so he is a good guy to deal with , and the quality of the units he sells is excellent for the money, especially if your looking to just get something and get a feel for it before you lay down some serious dollars, so I would recommend
    primaryarms.com
I am sure others may chime in on his merchandise or has had some and I am definately not saying its better than something 4 times the money but its definately a great alternative for a fraction of the cost and does a great job,
there are some reviews on his red dots on the ar15 website I will get a link for you , just my opinions,

Thank you for the info. I just took a gander at primary arms' website. Pretty impressive.

I just put my Primary Arms Red-Dot w/ an Aimpoint Clone 3x to the test at Burro Canyon last weekend. It worked great.

As a matter of fact, all the blah, blah, blah about how the clones don't have good brightness in bright sunlight and don't hold zero very well is all B.S. in my opinion. I actually keep my brightness setting down in the middle. It was too bright all the way up.

I will say that I was not entirely happy with my patterns out at 100yds.+, but I don't know if that necessarily had anything to do with the optics set-up I have. I don't know if any 3x magnifier is supposed to help you hit 1" spreads at 100yds. But I know at 36yds. I had many patterns on my target sheet where I was connecting 3 or even sometimes 4 holes.

I've come to accept that what I currently have on my AR has limitations and anything out to say 75yds and beyond I will need a scope. And I'm OK with that, especially considering I only dropped $225 total for both the 3x & P.A. red-dot.

You should probably decide what exactly you want to do before you decide what you want to buy. I did not do that. But it's all good.
