Review: Barska Electro red dot sight

Got one in a trade. I was going to mount it on a 22, but thought, what the heck, lets try it on something else. So I mounted it on a 625 in 45acp. The sight has good features, but that is where it ends.

10 rounds of medium power 45 acp loads and the red dot shifted. Couldn't get it back on target. If I look through it, I can clearly see that the muzzle is pointed way away from where the dot is positioned.

Barska has a 1 year warranty. What they don't tell you is that you have to pay for shipping both ways and also a $20 inspection fee. Screw em, I'm trashing it. The $80 they ask for the sight is better spend on donating to the NRA.

Save your money. Buy quality optics. "They" don't say that because they are idiots. It is true as the earth revolves around the sun. Enough said.

Informative. How'd you end up getting one in trade? Didn't the BARSKA name make you a little uneasy?

I think there is a time and place for something like a Barska. I have a scope of theirs, has held 0, no issues yet, but know it is a budget optic. A prime example would be to get something like this - and why I did it - was until you really learn the in's and out's of scopes or red dots or lasers, what you want, like, don't like and then buy a high end optic/scope/laser etc. use it as a learning tool.

as well, if cost is an issue, I would take something over nothing and for some, them means Barska and not an Aimpoint or Leupold.

Just figured I'd ask. All I ever hear is 'Buy once cry once' and brand bashing. Obviously the points have merit, especially concerning the 'warranty.'

yes, the warranty info is worth nothing and, as the OP said, not likely worth the hassle given the value of that red dot.

maybe set the red dot up down wind and try to mimic that sniper scene where you shoot down the eye piece from that one movie - like they mimicked on Myth Busters

I've actually heard good things about the barska Facog. It has held up well on most AR's and this is the first poor review yet. I do agree, cry once and you'll be happy with it. I went through a bunch of cheap optics and am now bucking up and buying good ones. I went through a few cheap red dot sights and went EOtech instead. I went through 3-4 high power scopes (of which truglo was actually pretty awesome) and now i'm looking at a medium power Leupold which I could have just paid for in the first place with all the cheap scopes. Oh well, life lessons learned

Have any experience with cheap mounts?

I think, when your well versed in something, you buy top notch all the way the first time everytime. But, I think when your still learning, at times, a budget buy can make sense.

For example, I have been around cycling so long, know it so well, I only buy top end components when I have to buy. Period. I spare no expense as it is what I spend most of my time doing.

However, though I have been around guns my whole life, and I am not a newbie, I am by no means super knowledgeable in some aspects. Scopes being one. So, for me, it made more sense to get a decent budget scope that has all the bells and whistles, learn how to use it and see what I like, then jump up to a 1500 scope when I better understand how to adjust, calibrate, sight in, calculate using the budget model as it will allow me to live and learn and make affordable mistakes as someone not totally sure yet what a scope is all about.

yeah, I do.. sometimes, the mounts are more of an issue than the optics you put them on. Barksa has some cheap mounts, as do many Asian clones. Maybe the optics are not so bad at times - given what they are mind you, budget optics - but the mounts just make a once manageable optic a PITA.

Just wondering about the CAA DVSR. I have one. It works great. It's buddy was a Tasco before, now it's going to be a $500 Falcon scope. Just trying to make sure a cheap mount wont make my Christmas present burst aflame. Sorry for the threadjack - didn't want to open a new thread.

It was virtually free. I was swapping some stuff from my misc junk box with a range friend's misc junk box. I gave him some brass in return along with mags for guns I no longer have, etc.

At least it wasn't a complete loss, then.
