    scope power?

    whats the rule of thumb?

    I want to shoot 100ish - 600yrds, also not rule out 1000yrds.

    3.5-15
    5.5-20

what is too much for 100yrds
what is not enough for 1000yrds

    Thanks!

Neither is too much for 100 nor too little for 1000. Depends on your target - for most shooting out to 1000 the 3.5-15 is fine. I use a 4-16X50 in 1000 comps and usually keep it on 12X
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

I prefer my 8-32X for 1000 yard competition but, I also use a 5.5-22X. Unfortunately, sometimes 22X is not enough for me to see the mirage though. You will get other opinions from shooters who do not want to see the mirage though. In the end, it'll be up to you to decide what will help you shoot the best. If you learn how to read mirage, it will help you but, it takes a lot of time and practice to do it well. I would suggest either a 5.5-22 or an 8-32. Both will give you enough magnification for shooting 1000 yards and, both are just fine for 100 yards shooting as well. Hell, +20 years ago, I used a 6.5-24 for shooting smallbore sillouette. That's shooting a .22lr from 40 meters to 100 meters. Some shooters had higher magnifications though.
