Any experience with Barska red dots

I am looking at this red dot scope for a Keltec SU-16.

I like the fact that it is light, has rails, is compact and has removable 2x lens on it, and it is within my budget.

Do you have any experience with this scope or any other Barska red dots?

Do you think the red dot will be bright enough for full sun shooting?

    Thanks

Barska seems enticing to many because of their price. I would urge you look at a more reputable company. Take a look at Vortex, their Strikefire would be suitable for range shooting at an afforable price.

I checked out the Vortex. Looks nice. I don't like the fact that it mounts with one ring. I like my optics to be very well secured to my rifle. In addition the rail on an SU-16 is composite so I wouldn't feel comfortable extra tightening the one ring for the Vortex. The barska has a very long integral mounting system that looks like it would be much more secure. So I am still leaning toward the Barska.

My buddy had this Barska reddot mounted on his Beretta Neos. The dot was barely visible to my eyes in full daylight, and the lenses are plastic of some kind. It felt cheap and was very difficult to use. He eventually put it on his airsoft.

Do a search for Barska. The posts you'll find are not smiles and sunshine.

I think BlackMajik gave you sound advice. If you go with Viper, at least you'll have some customer support if (when) it breaks.

I can tell you that I has one of the better baraska scopes on my 24" 308 upper, I almost pwaned the upper off on some poor shmuck because my mini30 was more accurate with iron sights. then one day I bought a real scope and now that thing shoots under a inch at 200 yards

barska es no me gusto... that's spanish for "they suck"

            another sucker

I too was sucked into the lure of enticement that is Barska... I got a red dot for my .22 and sure enough, it was so mediocre that I shoot w/ my fiberoptic iron sights over using it, as even at 25 yards it opened my groups on my bucky from quarter size to softball size... even with a rest... something is just not right about them. run..don't walk, to another brand.

used to be you could find these for $100, no personal experience with them, but have read a ton of great writeups on them

Does anyone have the link to the torture test thread for the S.P.O.T red dot? I've been searching for a while and can't find. Can't recall the thread title either. GRRR. I have one and like it

There was a review of the electro-sight a couple days ago. No-go. Pick up something nicer.

I've got one that came with my kel tec. You can see it in the background here. (dont have any close ups on file yet)

I haven't really sighted it in yet but honestly, i think i'm going to go with a different scope all together. I'll put some kind of red dot on my AR when i build it for use up close, but the SU-16 isn't really made for HD like the AR is. It would work, and i love the gun, don't get me wrong. but a red dot really isn't the best way to go IMHO. It's more of a hunting rifle than a CQC rifle. Bushnell makes a smaller low power scope that would give you the best of both worlds. Barska isn't what i'd consider good quality either. If you want rails just buy the compact fore end from Kel Tec.

(I know the scope is on backwards, i just threw it on real quick for the photo and didn't realize till afterward)

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

I ran one on a 10/22 and later my Saiga 223 for awhile. Held zero fine on those. Brightness sucks though compared to a higher end unit. For the $25 I spent I was happy with it.

Guess I should add I have different style..

                        I have this

Explore Barska's wide range of high-quality safes and outdoor equipment. From binoculars and scopes to safes and tactical gear, we offer top-notch products designed for outdoor enthusiasts and hunters.

works well enough. Got it on a trade. Adjustable. Brightness is just fine. Has held zero.. mounts kind suck for quality (bolts/nuts that is), but seems to be staying solid.

it is what it is... a budget scope until I learn more about scopes. Thus, I think there is a time and place for them.
