What Ring height does one need? 1" tube & 47.3mm/1.85" objective bell

Okay, people, here's the simple question: What Ring height does one need to mount a scope with a 1" tube & 47.3mm/1.85" objective bell onto a picatinny rail?

It just needs to not touch the rail under the front of the scope. I know some makers have different measuring methods or heights - I 'm looking at Weaver, Warne, and TPS rings. I'm guessing Medium or High?

Given the above numbers, I think I need at least .86" from the ring "saddle" to the bottom of the ring where it mounts to the rail.

I don't have any rear sight in the way.

Want it as low as possible while "clearing" the rail.

    Thanks

Tube diameter doesn't matter if ring height is measured to the tube centerline, as many are. So, you need a height of objective bell diameter divided by two, plus some clearance, if ring height is measured from top of rail. That would be 0.925" plus clearance for your scope, or 0.425"+ to the bottom of the ring saddle. Ring manufacturers should have drawings showing how they measure their rings.
If you don't want to do the math, do it graphically with a compass: draw your tube diameter for visualization, draw the objective diameter on the same center, draw a straight line offset from that center at whatever distance gives you the amount of clearance you want, measure the distance from the line to the center, and find some rings that have that height or more.

      Ha, yourself . . .
