Surefire G2 is a great entry light. Pretty inexpensive, the quality is great. They make an LED model that is a little more expensive but the battery life is much better.

I don't have any Streamlight tac lights but I have a gun light, the quality is great on them as well. I think they are a little less money but I don't have a model to recommend.

I own the Streamlight TLR series and have had the rest BUT nothing compares to the BEST....... The TLR-1 or the TLR-2 with laser. Not just because I do sell these at a VERY affordable price but they also carry a no questions asked lifetime warranty. Here is a link for ya

          Brighter the better.
The tac light serves two purposes... to aid you in getting a positive ID on the target before pulling the trigger, and to temporarily dazzle the target so he has a harder time acquiring you as a target.

Wake up in the middle of the night, stand at the bedroom door, and ask your wife to shine a flashlight in your face... see how well you would be able to target the center of that beam if you were an intruder
I used to believe that tac lights and lasers simply said "shoot here", but after doing the above, I've changed my mind WRT lights.

I've always been a fan of Surefire. I've owned handheld and dedicated weapon lights and have never had an issue with either. I recently got a fenix pd30 on a trade and I'm very impressed. Compact and bright wth a max output of 220 lumens. I'm not a fan of the button and if I had a choice id go with the surefire style momentary button. Still, great little flashlight for $50-$60.
