    AR-15 Scope Help

Just built my second AR-15. Looking to get a scope on it and bi-pod legs.

    Specs:
    LAR Grizzly Lower
    Stag Parts Kit
    Stag 6H Upper Assembly
    Magpul CTR Stock Assembly

Im looking to get a scope but not familiar with the variations and what I should be looking for. It is to be mainly used for desert shooting at targets.

Is $300-$500 a good amount to work with?
What would I need to mount the scope and the bi-pod legs?
What are some good bi-pod legs for the money?

Any recommendations or pointers should help.

I tried to do a search but there is far to much stuff on here to sort through and a lot of abbreviations I dont understand. Kind of information overload. You all have been helpfull in the past.

    Thank you all

What ranges are you shooting at, or more importantly, what magnification range do you want? Illuminated reticle or no?

I like Harris bipods for the money, and they can attach to the swivel stud on the 6H handguard. I like the swivel base and notched legs version. Should run $85-95 depending on where you shop. Just make sure you really want to shoot off a bipod before you go buy one.

      Scope and bi pod

      Hey buddy!
I have 4 AR's all set up for closer combat. And my 5th one I am looking for a 10X up to 17X As for your second AR most people set them up with Eotech or aimpoint. I even just bought the new Burris AR332and it is nice for the $$!!
If you want a scope to reach out to 400+ yards and want a fairly good scope for your budget I am looking at the Supper sniper non variable 10X with side focus. I want side focus more than variable and decent quality so I sacrificed variable. If you want all features like 2.5X14 or something some people say Vortex but I like higher tactical knobs my self and would pay a little more and go with a Falcon Menace or Bushnell 6500. Also an Accupoint in 1X4X24 is a great scope for closer engagement or if you prefer 3X9X40 Both are excellent according to most people that have them. I am either going to spend a little more and get this:http://www.cstactical.com/index.php?...hk=1&Itemid=53 I am still leaning to the SS for $$ reasons only though

Good luck and I hope more people will comment on this thread for advice.

        Bi pod I love Atlas!!

They are a little more than a budget or Harris but way better than a Tango Down for the same $$ and will last a lifetime.
Very well kept secret on bi pods. I have 2 and the only one I would buy besides the Atlas is there newer model when they come out with it?

No ranges, just known shooting areas in the desert. I live in California, but have a house in both Parker, AZ and Bullhead, AZ. I do most of my shooting in broad daylight where it is low to mid 70's during the winter most days there.

Im buying a pickup soon (getting rid of the SUV) and would like to lay on my stomach in the bed and shoot at targets, somewhat sniper style. Its all shooting for fun with friends. This is why i wanted the bi-pod legs, to lay belly down and shoot stuff. I have my other AR built for close range with a stag 1H standard upper.

For the scope, the most I will need is probably 300 yards, but mainly between 100-200 yards.

          Thanks again for the help.

Sorry for being ambiguous, what I meant was how far are you shooting, which you answered:

I'd probably get a 3-9x accupoint for that, but that's just me. Some folks can do well with less magnification.

To my knowledge it's illegal to shoot a firearm and have any contact with a vehicle at the same time.

I was not aware of this. Is this just in CA, or all states?

Im going to be out in the middle of the Arizona desert, vehicle parked, turned off, and nothing but dirt and rock all around.

I dunno if it's illegal in AZ, but I'm pretty sure it's illegal in Nevada Illegal in Nevada, imagine that.

Burris Fullfield II 4.5 - 16. I got mine at www.Adorama.com a few months back for $325with free shipping. Went to buy another and they are out. I like the glass a little heavy but helps to stabilize with the weight. Look there anyway they usually have some good deals.

Wow illeagel in Nevada to shoot from a truck?? I spent years shooting rabbits and squirrels from the bed of the truck while we were driving in the fields and roads on the ranch.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

Quoted from a Parker, AZ. law enforcement officer.

"It's illegal to shoot from a vehicle while hunting. But there's no laws regarding target shooting from a vehicle."

Thanks for all the opinions guys.
Im going this weekend to check out some scopes and bi-pods in person.
I will keep all of your suggestions in mind.

Thanks for checking that out! I was taught that it was illegal to shoot while touching a vehicle from coyote hunters, so what you found out from the AZ officer--that it's only illegal while hunting--might apply in CA and NV also. My bad.
