A little help on what this is....?

    Hello all,
Purchased a rifle the other day from a guy and this scope was mounted on it... Looks a little cheep but actually is very clear and seems well made. Has no markings on it except the 4X32 on the side.. Can see lathe marks on the tube and the red ring on the objective end is a red anodized aluminum ring. Anyone know the maker of this?

    THANKS

      No clue.
Did you take turret cover off yet?
      Maybe there is marking there.
'Cuz big holes are easier to see.

You can correct my spelling and grammar error anytime.
I welcome it. How else would I learn.

I often try to identify unmarked scopes on ebay - go search on 4x32 scope. The red ring is a good help for matching pictures.

In my experience, unmarked scopes are low-end models. If this one has a steel body, it's probably an old Tasco style scope from the pre-Chinese era. They turn up a lot on older rifles.

Also, the gloss finish is increasingly out of favor (and harder to do good QC on), so that often indicates an older scope as well, but not always.

If the body's aluminum, or any of the eyepiece parts are plastic, it's probably more modern. Colorful lens coatings ("ruby", bright green, etc) are also indicators of modern inexpensive glass - older inexpensive scopes didn't have this so much.

Likewise, if the turret caps are plastic, that's a sign of a newer inexpensive scope. The old Japanese Tascos often had metal caps. Other inexpensive scope indicators are friction adjust instead of clicks, looseness or variability in the turret adjustments(no movement for a few changes, then a big shift), tight or uneven adjustments on the diopter adjust, etc.

I'd be surprised if it's worth more than $40 (and may be much less), unless it's a good brand that happens to be unmarked. I have several older inexpensive scopes that came on rifles - I use them until they give me any trouble at all, then toss them in the junk box.

Thanks for the input. In regards to the above comments, It is all metal, including the turrets, which I looked under. The eye piece is rimed with rubber which is the only non metal part. The glass is uncoated and very clear and bright compared to the low end cheap plastic tasco that came on one of my earlier 10/22's. It is as clear as some of the upper end scopes that I own. Under the elevation turret there is a small piece of paper that has a red number 2 on it. The adjustment increments are 1/4 moa that click for each one.

I have looked on ebay to try to come up with a match but no luck.
Like I said it has the look of a somewhat inexpensive scope but to me seems very well made and on a 10/22 seem that it will be a nice scope.

Again thanks for the input and if there is anyone ells out there that might know what this is please feel free to chime in and let me know.... Thanks

I was doing some digging around on the net and found out that Ruger at one time made, or should I say had scopes with there name on them. The scope that was for sale in the add looked exactly the same as the one I have except for the red ring is now not red and the finish is matte not gloss. The knurling on the turrets and the ocular end is identical.

The red ring makes sense as the logo for Ruger is red.
I guess my next question is, who made these scopes for Ruger?

            Thanks
