Vortex VS. Leupold?

Alright! So its time to upgrade my Sako finnbear l61r 30-06 which was passed down to my by my grandfather. I currently have an older bushnell on it but it has 2 scratches on the lenses so its time to replace it.

I am considering either the Leupold Vx-1 (maybe VX-2) and the Vortex viper 3-9x40 with the bdc reticle. I have seen the Leupold's and they seem good, but have not had a chance to see the Viper. I have seem a lot of talk lately about the Vortex brand stating that they are just as good if not better than the Leupold and that their warranty/customer service is again as good if not better Leupold's.

Does anyone have any first hand experience/words of wisdom regarding these scopes?

The VX-1's a good inexpensive scope. They're not great, but they're good for the money. They have friction adjustments, which I've never had any trouble with. VX-2 gets you better glass and coatings, click adjustments (both have hunter style adjusts), and more reticle choices, depending on the model. I'd go for the VX-2 if my budget allowed.

I've never used a Vortex, but lots of people here like them. I don't know how the price points compare. Scott at Liberty Optics could give you more info on them.
