    Mini-14 NON Ranch Optic Options

I have a pretty clear idea on what I want as scope but the mount is what I am looking for advice on. The side mount does not stay tight and i have little confident in them. But, some you may have better ideas. Is it possible to drill and tap for regular mounts? Is there another option I am overlooking?

    Thanks

I've seen aftermarket heat shields for the mini-14 that have a picatinny rail built into them. Depending on the optic you choose, that might solve the probelm.

      Ruger Mini-14 Optic

What type of optic are you attempting to mount onto your Mini-14?

I will presume that you do not have one of the newer generation models, but an older model with the fixed aperature rear sight on top of the receiver.

If you are trying to mount a standard type optic, then you can check with B-Square or Millet for some options available.

However, if you are considering mounting a Red Dot type sight, then as the other member suggested you could purchase the replacement heat shield cover with a rail attached (Natchez Shooters stocks the part). There would be no practical difference in mounting an RDS sight onto the forward portion of the rifle versus on the receiver.

After owning several Minis I can state that if you are trying to mount a standard type scope onto the gun for hunting, or target shooting the best solution will be to sell/ trade the gun for a newer model or one of the previous generation Ranch Rifles.

      Best of Luck,
