Pistol Scope/red dot

I have a beretta neos .22 lr that I'm thinking about adding an optic to. It is designed with a complete top rail, so versatile. However, I know nothing about optics for a pistol. I'd appreciate any general thoughts about options, experience (especially if someone has one), what you think works best for a pistol.
