    Scope height above bore?

    Quick question for you guys.

My new scope requires me to enter in ballistic info for my ammo for the holdover to be accurate. It also asks for measurement in inches of sight height above bore.

Who knows if when measuring I measure from the bore to the bottom of scope, middle, top? Also, what is a good way to measure it? The bore obviously not being as high as the receiver

    thanks in advance

I'd assume centerline of the bore to centerline of the scope.

The crosshairs are in the middle of the scope so you measure from the center of the scope to the center of the bore (Use the middle of the bolt)

DO like Frank says and use the bolt. Get a pretty good measurement but it doesn't need to be exact.

Lay a ruler or tape measure alongside the gun.
Measure from the middle of the reciever to the middle of the scope.

Your ballistic reticle is only going to be accurate with one specific load at one specific set of atmospheric conditions.
Most are setup for sea level.

              Thank you

That's what's cool about this scope, you enter in all the info, including elevation for where you are shootimng, and it tells you what power level to set the scope for the holdover to be accurate. So if I change elevation, I just need to have that info before hand and I will be able to make it good for that elevation.

What scope is it? Sometimes, the scope itself isn't calibrated at the "correct" power setting. Its something you need to verify for yourself.

I plan on it. I know he knows what he's talking about. Seen a lot of the hunts he's been on so I'm pretty sure his word is golden

Eek, how embarrassing. Ryan, Randal, et. al. know a lot more about the precision rifle game than I do. I'm just a hunter who shoots a lot and likes to know why stuff does what it does and how the application fits my uses.

                      It's the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40mm Rapid-Z 600

It asks for all this info (ballistic info, angle of scope, distance from bore to scope, elevation. etc) and then it tells you what power setting to set it to for the holdover to be proper. From their you zero as normal.
