    ACOG newbie question.

Hello, I have never purchased any sort of scope before. My eye caught the Trijicon TA31F-G and I put it on layaway. I was wondering, what is this scope best used for? What should I not use this scope for? I believe the add says its mostly for 5.56 flat top rifles. Should I get a backup site?

Lay away?? How did you do that?
I believe the ACOG actually comes with a small flip up rear site, that you use in conjunction with the forward site... Please correct me I am wrong!

AM - Only the ACOG NSN01 has an integrated iron sight that sits atop the scope. And they're completely useless.

ACOGs are fixed 4X power scopes and in IME, best used for anything 50-200y out. If your eyes can learn to use BAC (google this concept), you can use them up close as well.

None of the AGOC scopes have a back-up sight that will work with the standard front. A variation of the TA01 has a back-up sights on top of the scope.

Back to the original post. It is a good scope that you can use for anything you want. Back-up irons are personal preference if you think you'll need them. ACOG's are rugged scopes and can take abuse and still hold zero, that's why so many are in service in the military.

Not to thread jack, but can you use a flip up rear site then?? I have seen it, but I dont remember how high they sit. Is there a little hole that you can use the rear site with?

You can see those little extensions on top of the scope. Those are the BUIS and they're way too high for you to align your flip-up rear.
