Scope for a Marlin XL7 30-06???

Hey guys...I just purchased a Marlin XL7 30-06 for deer season and I need some advice on what kind of scope works well with this rifle....Personal experience is what I'm looking for. It comes with a stock base so I need to find the right ring/scope combo. I'm looking at a 300 meter max range based on the areas I've scouted.

I'm not looking for lectures about using a 30-06 for a deer either. TIA.

Well, due the overwhelming number of responses to my thread, I am posting a temporary conclusion to my query. I've opted for a set of Leupold rings and a Nikon Prostaff (package deal from Cabelas, comes with an entry level range finder for $280). I will be sure to post my results for any lurkers out there who are in a similar bind and would like to know the results. I was going to upgrade the mount, but in reflection I'd decided to give the stock mounts a trial run.

We'll see how this cheap rifle/scope combination plays out...My guess is it will be just fine for hunting. The XL7 has recieved plenty of solid reviews, enough to convince me that this is an extremely accurate low priced rifle.
