    US Optic ST-10

I'm considering a US Optic ST-10 with MOA scale Type 1 reticle, 1/4 elevation and windage knobs and 37mm objective; if I can find one.

I'm thinking since I will almost always be shooting at range from at least 100 yards I can not see the need for a variable power scope. The guys at the club that have variable powered scopes almost always have them at max magnification.

Scope will be on a remington 700 P or an AR15. Our range goes out to 800 yards but I doubt I would ever be shooting that far.

Would the fixed power scope referenced above set up the way I stated be a very good choice?

To how far do you plan to shoot? What size targets? A fixed 10x is a decent all around magnification, but a little limiting. Is this just going to be a range rifle? No hunting? If so, you may be better off with more magnification.

Probably no more than 400 yards. I would like to shoot a little further as I get some experience.

      What size targets?
      200 yards-24"x 24"
      300 yards-40"x42"
further out not sure of size since I have no experience shooting any further.

Is this just going to be a range rifle?
      Yes

      No hunting?
      Very little hunting if any.

With the sizes of the targets you'll be shooting, you could hit them with a pistol. The 700p should be capable of moa accuracy a little ways out.

You've asked about some pretty high end scopes recently. For the shooting you'll be doing, I think you'll be wasting your money. You'd be better served with a Bushnell 3200, 4200 or 6500 variable with a mildot reticle and "target" knobs. Learn how to use it well and then you'll know what you want in an upgrade.

Gotta echo the above sentiments - before you drop coin on an ST10 get a Bushnell 10X40 MD and play with it awhile - its a rugged scope for about 1/10the price of a ST10. See if you like it, gain shooting experience like it and then decide.
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

True a 10X MilDOt is a good all around magnification for target out to 1000yards, as most of the shooting is on large steel targets as well as hold over shots. This can be accomplish with any out of the box hunting rifle.

But what I find is if you get into reloading and target zoning you rifle for small groups, a higher magnification scope is the way to go. On my 6mm223, I have a Zeiss Daivari 6-24x56mm. The Mildot range designation is at 12X and yes most of my shooting is at 12X but sometimes, instead of hold overs, I like to dial in the range with my elevation knob and shoot the target at extended ranges in 24X... it is quite nice to see the impact out to 600 yards (6mm223 effective range is about 400 yards). On my 308, is a USO SN-3 3.2-17X, since it is FFP, tagging targets at 800 yards is very satisfying.

You can't go wrong with a USO ST-10 but most likely you will want the SN-3 as you gain experience.

I have owned 2 ST-10 scopes- upgraded to a MKIV and an SN-3. Go big- no training wheels for gun stuff.
