I have a Nitrex 6.5-20x50 on my .223 Savage 25. In my opinion, it is too much scope for what I do (squirrel hunting at up to 300 yrds). The objective is too big and heavy, and I never use it beyond 16X.

I may replace that scope. If I do I will not go beyond 16X40. I will probably go with a Bushnell 3200 10x40 mildot, or a variable not exceeding 15X40 mildot with micrometer turrets.

It depends on what you use it for. If you are hunting with your 223 then yes, it's way too much scope. If you are shooting from a bench at paper then it is fine.

I use a 6.5x20 Leupie on my 6.5x284 for long range shooting out to 1,000 yards and varmint shooting off of a portable bench but when I take it out for hunting antelope, etc. I trade scopes down to 4-16X or even a 4-12X and limit myself to 500 yards.
