    Kowa spotter...

Just got a Kowa TSN-884. The Kowa protective filter for the objective is a bit pricey. Would a Hoya, Niko, or Sigma 95mm UV filter work just as well? They are much cheaper.

Hoya will work just fine. Nikon are good too, but more expensive. My favorite filters are B&W, but they are somewhat pricey. A UV or Skylight will work well.

Try B&H Photo-Video, or Camera Land NY to buy. They have the best prices.

Nice looking scope, by the way.

? "If you want nice fresh oats, you have to pay a fair price. If you are satisfied with oats that have already been through the horse, well, that comes a little cheaper."

I'd love to have a look through one of those. The most I could afford was a TSN-663. I mainly use their 30x Wide Angle eyepiece on it.

I put a Tiffen UV filter on it. It was cheap. Like $15. Did I make a mistake?

I can't say about the Tiffen filter.

The Kowa protective filter for the TSN 884 was $250 (!)

Mama mia! That filter costs about what I paid for my eyepiece, I think.

I can't complain about my Tiffen, have not looked through any others. Seems pretty darned clear to me. I consider is a protective shield more than anything else.

Look through the scope with the filter in place and then without. If you don't see much difference, particularly at long distance, it is probably fine.
