Effects of high temps on Optics?

I noticed the eye piece on my Nikon Buckmaster scope was loose. The threads and locking ring seemed to have moved somehow and now it seems to be stripped, won't stay in place. Would high temps (above 180F) cause this? I left my rifle in the truck in the case when the outside temperature was 114F and it got at least that hot inside maybe hotter.

Shouldn't have been from that. I'd send it back to Nikon for eval/warranty.
